Job Description

SUMMARY:
This individual leads teams in continuing improvement projects including process improvements, cost reductions, work cell layout, inventory reduction, etc. This individual is responsible for manufacturing processes including fabrication methods and procedures, material usage, work routing, and troubleshooting manufacturing problems. This individual leads tooling, materials, and equipment justification for cost reductions. This individual will organize, plan and integrate new products into existing manufacturing cells. This individual may direct others as part of project coordination. This individual will mentor and train personnel on equipment operation, lean principles, and component quality optimization.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
1. Active participation in conducting I.E. projects for feasibility studies, cost estimating or new process development.
2. Prepare bill of materials/special jobs and coordinate with Purchasing and Material Control to optimize material usage.
3. Determine tooling requirements and method of production and initiate, if necessary, proper procedures to acquire them.
4. Coordinate manufacturing changes required by approved Engineering Change Order (ECO).
5. Conduct value analysis studies to improve materials, processes equipment needs and make appropriate recommendations to supervisor, prepare data incidental to requests for Capital Equipment, conduct manufacturing cost studies and estimates, as requested.
6. Evaluate existing methods of operations, routings, processes, tooling, etc., and recommend and/or initiate changes or modifications to update and achieve optimum operating efficiencies and manufacturing economies.
7. Meet with and assist Cell Coordinators and other staff personnel in matters related to assigned manufacturing engineering functions, e.g., product design changes, standardization of parts and tooling, budgets, cost reduction, quality control, plant layout, material movement, packaging, etc.
8. Ethics & Work Standards: Maintain the highest ethical and work standards, while promoting the same attributes in co-workers and others. Insure that all business activities - with both internal and external customers - be performed with a professional demeanor and that all participants be held accountable to this high standard.
9. Communication: Expresses thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, using good grammar. Presents concise, well organized reports. Listens to understand input, feedback and concerns. 12. Accountability: Accepts responsibility and accountability for both the strategic planning and the successful implementation of all projects/programs/duties as outlined in this job description. Advises supervisor of concerns, problems and progress of work in a timely manner. Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency toward completion. Deadlines are met.

CONTACTS (Internal and External):
This position has routine contact with shop employees, cell coordinators, design personnel, sales and marketing, customer service support, research & development, purchasing and quality functions. There is moderate telephone, email or personal contact outside of company with suppliers and customers. There is limited contact with senior managers. Most communication will include written, phone, and email.

Supervision: Works under general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or his designee.
Responsibility: This individual exercises a significant degree in judgment as defined by the supervisor.
