•        BA / BS in related field.
•        5+ years of experience including:

•        Preferred experience working in Settlement House or similar community based organization, and/or residential camping.
•        Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

o        Being able to relate to a wide variety of constituents (elected officials, municipal and state bureaucracies, businesses, civic groups, donors, neighbors, auditors, and peer groups).
•        Nonprofit financial experience

Job Description

The Opportunity: Northwestern Settlement is seeking a Director of Operations who will strengthen and improve support areas; ensuring that all services are high quality and meet compliance and contractual expectations to position the organization for its next phase of development. The opportunity at hand will include developing long-term operational strategies, working closely with senior management to meet organization’s objectives. Additionally, this leader will oversee key operating functions to ensure that consistent, efficient workflows are in place, yielding optimal productivity, performance and quality support for our programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Drive a strategic vision and plan for Facilities that reflects best practices, and ensures high quality support to our programs and overall organization.
• Ensure a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement that values learning and commitment to quality within the diverse facilities team.
• Oversee the efficient and effective facility operations of three sites, two in Chicago and one residential facility in Wisconsin.
• Develop a facility improvement and construction project plan, including maintaining oversight, ensuring projects are on time and on budget
• Management of annual operating budget and long-term projections pertaining to department.
• Supervise Chief of Facilities and the following functions:
o Development, implementation and training of policies and procedures for effective operation and program compliance/licensing requirements.

• Drive technology strategic vision and plan that reflects best practices, and ensures high quality support to our programs and organization for short and long-term operation.
• Management of all electronic (data and voice) communication and the infrastructure across our three campuses.
• Management of device leasing program and annual operating budget and expenses for departments
• Supervise Director of Technology and the following functions:
o Management of E-rate funding
o Management and maintenance of critical operating systems including all hardware in daily use
o Make recommendations for software and technology improvements across diverse programs
o Employee tech training, communication and support

Human Resources:
• Oversee systems, process and procedures of the organization for recruiting, hiring, training, onboarding, payroll administration, employee benefits, and retention efforts (300 full time and seasonal employees)
• Management of annual operating budget and expenses for department
• Oversight and improvement of employee benefit and retirement plans
• Oversight of organizational insurance package
• Insure necessary HR reports are produced and filed on timely basis
• Supervise HR Director

• Insure completion of all compliance related requirements from contracts and grants with Chicago Public Schools, State of Illinois and City of Chicago
• Develop, implement and communicate master emergency procedures across all sites
• Coordinate food service contracts and compliance across all sites.
• Develop a strategic vision and plan that reflects best practices, ensures continuous improvement and high quality support to our programs and organization as it relates to fulfilling compliance requirements.

Government Relations:
• Work collaboratively with the President, main Board on matters of policy, support, and general relations with local, state and federal elected officials and agencies.
• Act as the organizational representative to the Illinois Network of Charter Schools, Elevate Chicago, and our national organization, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities.
