Travelocity announces more layoffs

by - 11-29-2013

Travelocity is cutting jobs at its call center in the Hanover Industrial Estates in Hanover Twp.

Employees were notified Tuesday they will lose their jobs, company spokesman Joel Frey said.

Third round of Texas layoffs since mid-September, Travelocity notified employees last week that it plans to cut 15 workers from its Southlake headquarters . These layoffs are on top of the 62 positions it plans to cut from its San Antonio location.

"Some of the call volumes we have been expecting aren't ramping up as we had anticipated and unfortunately, we had to scale back," Mr. Frey said. "It's really a tough thing. We really love the team here."
Employees will be eligible for severance and can apply for other positions in the call center. Career counseling also will be provided, he said.

The travel website, owned by Sabre Holdings, is based in Southlake, Texas, and has another call center in San Antonio. Last month, company officials announced plans to cut 14 jobs at the Southlake office and said more layoffs would be coming.
Travelocity has said that the layoffs arerelated to a deal in which many Travelocity job functions will be assumed by its former rival, Expedia Inc. In August, Travelocity, which is owned by Sabre Holdings, entered into a long-term marketing agreement with Expedia.
